Sony Announce Playstation 4

Sony last night unveiled the highly anticiapted PS4, their fist video-game console in seven years.

The console itself was not unveiled at the New York event but certain key specifications were divulged.

The PS4 will have 8GB of RAM, and an 8-core x86 CPU, along with a local hard drive. This switch to a new processor type means that PS3 discs will not work on the new console.

The new PlayStation will also include social-gaming features, with the new controller featuring a ”share” button  that lets players tag and share live feeds of their play and watch what others players are doing at the same time. Friends watching a video can then post comments or take over the controller itself and guide the gamer via their online connection.

The controller, dubbed “Dualshock 4″ also includes a touch panel and better motion controls

The new system is  designed to learn players’ likes and dislikes allowing it to make recommendations for future purchases. Along with this, streaming of games is now possible so gamers can play a demo without any downloads, and be able to stream games while they are still downloading.

This new service, PlayStation Cloud, is the “fastest, most powerful network for gaming in the world” according to David Perry, CEO of Sony’s Gaikai online game service.

The official release data and price of the new console is expected to be released around June.
